As I sit down to write this post, I can't help but feel a surge of excitement about the journey we are about to embark on together in this channel dedicated to the vibrant festivals and rich traditions of Mithila. For many of us who share a native language and heritage that spans across continents, celebrating our culture is not just an act; it’s a bridge that connects us back to our roots, no matter how far we find ourselves from home. Growing up in Mithila, the kaleidoscope of colors and sounds from our festivals would sweep me away into a world of joy and togetherness. Each festival narrated its own story, filled with deep cultural significance and shared memories. Whether it was the vibrant celebration of Sita Jayanti, where we honor the birth of Sita, or the rich traditions embedded in Chhath Puja, where we pay homage to the Sun God with sacred offerings, these moments were woven into the fabric of our identity. Here in the United States, I have witnessed the strength of our Maithili-speaking community as we strive to keep these traditions alive. Through events hosted by Salhesh USA, I've seen the older generation share stories steeped in history while the younger ones eagerly learn dances, songs, and rituals that have been passed down through the ages. These cultural events not only serve as gatherings but foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of who we are as Maithili speakers.
