A Not So Common - Common Babbler From Telangana #CommonBabbler #SriramWildlifePhotographer A sighting of an uncommon variant of the Common Babbler has been reported in Enkatala, located in the Vikarabad district of Telangana state. It's noteworthy that sightings of Common Babblers are rare occurrences within the state of Telangana, making this observation particularly noteworthy. Common Babblers are known for their gregarious nature, often forming noisy and active groups called flocks. They are highly social birds, often seen foraging on the ground in search of insects, small invertebrates, and seeds. Their diet also includes berries and fruits, particularly during the non-breeding season. In terms of appearance, Common Babblers have a brown plumage with lighter underparts, streaked with darker markings. They have a distinctive long tail and a strong, slightly curved bill adapted for their omnivorous diet. Breeding in Common Babblers typically occurs during the monsoon season, with nesting sites located in thorny bushes or low trees. These birds construct cup-shaped nests using twigs, grass, and other plant materials, often hidden amidst dense foliage for protection. While the name suggests they are common, their distribution can be patchy, and they may not be equally abundant in all regions where they are found. Factors such as habitat loss and fragmentation can impact their populations, making sightings of Common Babblers even more special, especially in areas where they are not commonly observed, such as the state of Telangana.
