Baya Weaver Male Nest Building Male Baya weavers are responsible for constructing the nests. They are highly skilled weavers and create intricate, flask-shaped nests made from grass, leaves, and thin twigs. The nests are woven using a complex interlocking pattern. Male Baya weavers construct multiple nests within the colony to attract females. They perform elaborate nest-building displays, where they hang from the nest while fluttering their wings and calling out to attract females. They usually build their nests in colonies, often near water bodies like lakes, ponds, or marshes. They prefer locations with tall trees or shrubs, providing them with a secure place to build their nests. They often reuse their nests from previous breeding seasons.
