The day aims to raise awareness about the decline in the population of sparrows and other common birds due to various factors including urbanization, pollution, and loss of habitat. It was first initiated in 2010 by the Nature Forever Society of India in collaboration with the Eco-Sys Action Foundation of France. The significance of World Sparrow Day lies in highlighting the importance of conserving these small birds and the ecosystems they inhabit. Sparrows are not only charming creatures but also play a vital role in controlling pests, pollination, and maintaining ecological balance. Various events and activities are organized worldwide on this day, including birdwatching sessions, seminars, workshops, and community initiatives aimed at creating awareness about the conservation of sparrows and their habitats. People are encouraged to participate in such events and take actions in their daily lives to support sparrow conservation efforts, such as providing nesting spaces, planting native vegetation, and reducing the use of pesticides. This video of Yellow-throated sparrow was captured using Canon R3 + Canon RF 600mm f4 lens. Yellow-throated sparrow is also known as Salim Ali Bird and also as Chestnut-shouldered Petronia.
