I am a Vedic Astrology student for past 3 decades, in this presence I want to share my learnings and practical observations especially Parashar padhati for predicting a horoscope.

Basics of Vedic Astrology

There are 12 signs and 9 planets, What are the 12 signs?

Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarus, Caprocorn, Acquarius and Pisces

The Signs are 12 divisions of 3 dimensional 360 degree space in relation to earth  - so each sign is 30 degree.

What are the planets ?

Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, Rahu and Ketu.

Rahu Ketu are actually moving points in sky, will detail this in a separate post.

Please note Earth is not considered as a planet as everything is in relation to the Earth and the subject (Jatak) is born on Earth at a particular time and location.

What is a Horoscope?

Simply - It is the position of planets in the sky at the time and place of your birth - the ascendant( Lagna) Chart.

Methods of Interpretation

  • Birth Chart Analysis: A detailed Kundli is created using the exact time, date, and place of birth to determine planetary positions and their impact.
  •

  • Transits (Gochara): Ongoing planetary movements are analyzed in relation to the birth chart to predict future events.
  •

  • Yogas & Doshas: Special planetary combinations (yogas) can indicate prosperity or challenges, while doshas (e.g., Manglik Dosha) highlight potential obstacles.
  •

  • Remedial Measures: Vedic Astrology prescribes remedies such as mantras, gemstone therapy, rituals, and charity to mitigate negative influences.
  •

Applications

Vedic Astrology is widely used for personal guidance, career planning, relationship compatibility (Kundli matching for marriage), medical astrology, and spiritual growth. It remains an integral part of Indian culture and is followed by millions worldwide.

Predicting based on a horoscipe involves evaluating at least

  • Planets: degrees, position/placement in houses, strength, conjunction, aspects in Lagna chart (D-1)
  •

  • Many sub-charts: especially  Navamsa (D-9) and Dashamsa(D-10)
  •

  • Dasha/antardasha
  •

  • Constellation(nakshatra) and pada of planets
  •

  • and Transits (gochar)
  •

I will cover each of these topic in a separate channel.
