The Hyderabad Bird Atlas initiative has become a reality through the collective efforts and collaboration of three key organizations:
&nbsp;
<a href="https://www.wwfindia.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">WWF-India Hyderabad</a>, <a href="https://hyderabadbirdingpals.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hyderabad Birding Pals</a> (HBP), and <a href="https://deccanbirders.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Deccan Birders</a> (DB). Each of these organizations has played a vital role in shaping and driving the project forward.
&nbsp;
<a href="https://www.wwfindia.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">WWF-India Hyderabad</a> Office has provided strategic support and expertise in environmental conservation, ensuring the initiative aligns with global and regional biodiversity goals. <a href="https://hyderabadbirdingpals.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hyderabad Birding Pals</a> &amp; <a href="https://deccanbirders.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Deccan Birders</a>, with their vast experience in bird monitoring and community engagement, have been instrumental in organizing and mobilizing volunteers for the fieldwork.
&nbsp;
This collaborative effort underscores the shared commitment of these organizations to conserving avian biodiversity and promoting a deeper understanding of bird populations and their habitats in Hyderabad. Together, they are setting a benchmark for urban bird monitoring in India.

HBA Season1 Feb2025

A Hyderabad Bird Atlas(HBA) is a citizen science project aimed at systematically documenting the bird species present in and around the city of Hyderabad. This work closely follows the already completed Coimbatore, Mysore, Pune and the Kerala Bird Atlas.
<ul>
<li>Bird survey needs to be done twice in a year (Winter &ndash; Feb &amp; Summer &ndash; Jul) for a minimum period of 3 years</li>
<li>Outer Ring Road(ORR) is taken as the border limits for the survey</li>
<li>The different habitats like woodlands, grasslands, wetlands, open natural ecosystems and urban landscapes are selected randomly</li>
</ul>
HBA will cover 11% of the city
<ul>
<li>City is divided into grids of &nbsp;6.6km x 6.6km. Total 45 grids</li>
<li>Each grid is further divided&nbsp;4 quadrants and 36 subcells(1.1km x 1.1km)</li>
<li>4 random subcells(1 per quadrant) are picked for sampling (4 out of 36)</li>
<li>Total subcells needed to be sampled are around&nbsp;180 (4X45)</li>
<li>4 checklists of each 15 minutes are created from each subcell(4X15X180 = 10800 minutes (180 hours))</li>
<li>Total checklists for a season 720 (4X180)</li>
