  Om Namah Shivay, I recently learnt is a "Vedic" mantra, I initially thought it originated in Shiv Purana. This makes its even more powerful. Also learning that the Seer of this is Sage Vaamdev.   इसका विनियोग परिचय इस प्रकार है( Introduction is as follows): ऋषि (Seer): वामदेव ऋषि (Sage Vāmadeva) छन्द (Meter): पङ्क्ति (Pankti – 5 syllables) देवता (Presiding Deity): भगवान शिव बीज (Seed Sound): ॐ (Om) शक्ति (Power): उमा or पार्वती कीलक (Pillar/Lock): पंचाक्षर itself is the key to liberation (moksha)   I hope this chant sung by me helps atleast one person get closer to Shiva!
