Sinhagad Fort, located in Thoptewadi, about 35 km from Pune , is a 2000-year-old fort , also called Kondhana Killa. It’s perched on a plateau in the Sahyadri mountains, at an elevation of 1300 meters above sea level, with steep slopes offering natural defense. The fort features two main gates: Pune Darwaza (northeast) and Kalyan Darwaza (southeast) . Visitors can hire local guides to learn about the fort’s history while exploring the area. Sinhagad Fort Trekking Details: Sinhagad Fort trek distance: 16 km Sinhagad Fort trek time: 4-5 hours Sinhagad Fort trek difficulty level: Beginner to intermediate Things to see at Sinhagad Fort: Grand Entrance Gates – Two gates: Pune Darwaza (from Pune) and Kalyan Darwaza (towards Kalyan). Built with large stone blocks, lead, and limestone. Tanaji Kada – Steep cliff where Tanaji Mulasare climbed with a small army at night, aided by a tamed monitor lizard. Khandkada Machi – Eastern tip of the fort, near Pune Darwaza. Used to monitor Purandar Fort and the Mula-Mutha rivers. Great for panoramic views. Kalavanteen Buruj – Intact turret offering views of surrounding hills, valleys, and Tanaji Kada. Kade Lot – Cliff edge where prisoners were reportedly thrown. Known as Sunset Point, offering views of Pune city lights at night. Wind Point – Area with strong winds, where the "reverse falls" phenomenon occurs—water is blown back up the cliff. Tanaji Malusare’s Memorial – Memorial marking the resting place of Tanaji Malusare, who died in battle. Features his bust. Chhatrapati Rajaram’s Tomb – Tomb of the fort's caretaker. Resembling Muslim architecture, it includes a Tulsi Vrindavan and views of Khadakwasla Dam and Pune city. Sinhagad Fort Temples – Includes Kaundinyeshwar Temple (Shiva), Amruteshwar Temple (Bhairav & Bhairavi), Hanuman Temple, and Kali Temple. Dev Taake – A well with sweet, cold water. One of the fort's water sources, providing a refreshing stop for visitors. Lokmanya Tilak’s Bungalow – Former summer house of Lokmanya Tilak, where he hosted Gandhiji and other leaders for discussions during the freedom struggle. Thanks for watching!
