Moksha, the ultimate goal of human life according to Sanatan teachings, is a concept that holds profound significance in Hindu philosophy. In the pursuit of Moksha, individuals strive to break free from the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth (Samsara) and attain liberation from the worldly sufferings and limitations of the material world. Moksha is the highest state of spiritual realization, where one experiences oneness with the universal consciousness or Brahman.   At the core of the principle of Moksha is the belief that every being is inherently divine and that the true nature of the self is eternal, limitless, and blissful. However, due to ignorance (avidya) and attachment to worldly desires, individuals become entangled in the cycle of birth and death, experiencing suffering and transitory happiness. To achieve Moksha, one must transcend these limitations and realize their true nature as pure consciousness.   The path to Moksha is paved with self-realization, spiritual practices, and the pursuit of knowledge (jnana). Various spiritual disciplines such as meditation, yoga, selfless service (seva), and devotion (bhakti) are considered means to purify the mind, cultivate virtues, and realize the true self. By renouncing the ego, desires, and attachments, individuals can gradually detach themselves from the illusions of the material world and uncover the eternal truth within.   According to Sanatan teachings, the journey towards Moksha is not limited to a single lifetime but is a continuous process of evolution and growth across multiple lifetimes. The law of karma governs the actions and consequences of individuals, shaping their present circumstances and future destinies. By understanding the laws of karma, one can strive to perform righteous actions, overcome past karmic debts, and create positive karma that paves the way towards spiritual progress and eventual liberation.   The state of Moksha is often described as a state of pure bliss, peace, and liberation, where the individual merges with the universal consciousness and experiences transcendental freedom. It is a state beyond all dualities, distinctions, and limitations, where the soul is freed from the cycle of birth and death and attains eternal union with the divine. In Moksha, there is no more suffering, no more attachment, and no more individual identity – only the pure, radiant awareness of the ultimate reality.   Ultimately, the principle of Moksha in Sanatan teachings emphasizes the inherent divinity of every being and the potential for spiritual evolution and self-realization. By transcending the illusions of the material world, purifying the mind, and cultivating higher virtues, individuals can aspire to attain the ultimate goal of Moksha and experience the eternal bliss of union with the divine. It is a journey of self-discovery, transformation, and ultimate liberation that leads one from the transient realms of samsara to the timeless realm of eternal freedom and bliss.
