Verse 1 Perform your duties without getting entangled with the actions and results of actions. Such persons are known as sannyasi and yogi. People who have renounced Agni (not cooking any food), but that person is not really a sannyasi. Similarly, yogi who has renounced kriyas is not a yogi. Verse 2 Unless you renounce your Sankalp/Vikalp (do this and do not do this), you cannot become yogi nor sannyasi. The continuous thought process chain occurring in the mind must be broken. Unless you purify the vasanas existing in the mind, you cannot become yogi or sannyasi. All these stages are state of mind until you transcend to the level where you are merged with oneness. Once you reach the state of being, then you start seeing everything as one or form of the same divinity – Brahman. Once we start dropping our characteristics, we will reach to a stage where you merge with one – Brahman. You can do meditation on this to reach this stage. Till you drop all your characteristics, you are involved in duality. Psychology will bother you (because mind will not be able to manage this), but spirituality will help you to drop the activities of mind. Verse 3-4 The one who has stopped Sankalp/Vikalp, then you are yogarudhi or muni. For such a person there is no production of thoughts. First you left the fruits of actions, then you leave desires and continue to perform actions without any desires nor attachment to the results of actions. Verse 5-6 Now your mind becomes a friend to allow you to perform your duties. You start observing your mind as a small part of your big picture (oneness). You have total control over your mind. The characteristic of intellect (budhi) is to look for absolute answers. Till then, it can control mind. But when mind starts controlling your budhi, then we start justifying whatever mind wants. Once you go beyond this, then you become sannyasi and yogi. Verse 7 The one who is beyond sukha-dukha, are related to a state of mind and identity, these things are irrelevant.
