Chapter 16 - Daivasura Sampad Vibhaga Yoga Verse 1-3 Abhaya – is the stage of self-realization and it is the highest state where you experience oneness. The entire universe and I are the same. You get this pure Abhaya experience. The Dwait gets removed in this stage – highest state. There are things that we can follow in this life, e.g., absence of anger, compassion for all, gentleness, modesty, absence of malice etc. The Atm identification changes through purification of mind. Everything is occurring in your mind. When your mind starts focusing on negative thoughts you feel unhappy. When you start focusing on positive thoughts you become happy. When you start focusing on internal self, then use of mind becomes focused on Dhyana, Pratyahara, then you get Sanyam (control) which takes you towards Pragya. Vasanas are the barrier for Cit shudhi. Vasana rahit Cit is purity of mind. One needs to remove tamas, rajas related vasanas and move towards Sattwa. Arjavam – accept as it is without applying your own perceptions. At any moment we are behaving according to our nature which is deeply rooted in the vasanas. But our nature can be changed with intellect (Viveka) e.g., controlling anger, intent with unconditional love. Verse 3-10 - We are born out of these traits. Dambho – I am big because my uncle is minister. Ahankara – I take pride in whatever I have achieved. I have achieved this because I have budhi. In our life, we are part of Purusha entangled in Prakriti. Prakriti has three gunnas – Sattwa, Rajas and Tamas. The combination of these three Gunnas determine your sur and asura nature. Bhagawan Krishna is advising Arjuna that you are born out of Sur prakriti, you should not worry. But you should understand the nature of Asur. You are born with manifestation of certain elements of vasanas. When we start observing the effects of prakriti on me – we start moving towards spiritualism. When you start reaching to the stage where you can observe your Asuri nature – e.g., anger, hurt, then you do not get affected by it. You are born with your Prarabdha Karma. Then, your present life karmas also affect your nature. Prakriti’s nature is to travel from top to bottom. The properties of Prakriti are engrossed with three Gunnas – Sattwa, Rajas and Tamas. When you can start focusing on Sattwa it can take you towards Bhagawan. Animal instruments are not developed (brain). Human has ability to discriminate. Your Swabhav (perspective) prasad budhi does not need budhi – Bhakti Yoga. Verse 7 – There are two paths – Pravritti and Nivritti. The people with Asuri vritti do not understand this. Pravritti – following the right actions, e.g., you go to Gym for health. Nivritti Marg takes you towards the Jnana (Gyan) Yoga, e.g., I will not smoke. Pravritti Marg will take you towards Karma yoga. Asuri person do not understand this. Summation of all karmas culminates into Jnanam (Gyanam0 (knowledge of Brahman). Verse 11-12 -  We are taking about Asuri Pravritti. Immediate gratification becomes objective. That person who is dominated by tamas, they need a lot of efforts and time to get out of it. Bhoga – Bha – Prakashit; Ga – Gaman. Yoga – We can go towards yoga from Bhoga. There are three stages – Brahma, Jivatma and Atm. Atm takes different form based on the purity of mind. Verse 11-24 – Once you are driven by desire and perform actions to fulfill the desires by any means, one falls into lower level of human being. The Asuri Pravritti people do not believe in anything but acquiring wealth. They do not believe in the social impacts on the society. The people with Suri Pravritti perform yagya, make donations with the intent to purify the vasanas of the mind. But people with Asuri Pravritti intent is not Sattavik when they make donations. This world – is made of three gunas – Sattwa, Rajas and Tamas. When a person moves with Tamas guna they will acquire Asuri Pravritti. When mind is filled with Sattavik Pravritti they go closer to Daivi Pravritti. Without following scriptures to perform one cannot reach Brahman after getting rid of these three Gunnas.
