Bhagavat Gita – Chapter 12: Bhakti Yoga There is a process to reach Me. Who am I? is the focus of this chapter. Verse 13 – 14 The one who does not hate anyone. We can make this as a goal. Jealousy, different belief systems and others are the causes of Dwesha. There is one thing through which Dwesha can be removed, when you understand that everyone behaves according to its nature (Sattwa, Rajas and Tamas). So, when you fight you should fight without the attitude of dwesha. When we understand that everything is working according to the nature, your music becomes a melody and not a noise. Another example is related to getting emotionally charged while performing your daily activities. If you get charged with emotions, you forget your skills and start fighting with anger and jealousy and eventually loose the objective. The energy of Dwesha impacts the Solar-plexis, Sacral chakras and Heart chakra and you start feeling the negative impacts of Dwesha. Adwesha: When you remove dwesha, then you will automatically become friendly to others, egoless and owner of anything, indifferent to pain and pleasure. Yet, you must perform your duties. You still love (karuna) others while recognizing that others are not performing their duties. All properties related to adwesha must be in harmony (friendliness, compassionate, egoless, free from possessiveness, forgiving). Dhritrashtra was entangled in myness. If everything is working according to its nature, this level of understanding creates an attitude of equanimity. “The underlying principle of Dharma: it cannot exist without Karma (until you are in Turya state).“ I am also acting according to my nature. Then, I must elevate myself above the three gunnas (Sattwa, Rajas and Tamas). You will be more content when you know that this body is ageing. Due to age, there will be some complexity. Yet, passivity is not prescribed. One must perform their duties. We have sense organs (indriyas), should we use it indiscriminately? The one who is knowledgeable has the skill to use sense organs when needed. In a crowded place a mother can listen to the cry of her baby. These indriyas are like a tool, one needs to develop the skills to use them skillfully when needed. Yatatma: When a desire arises, normally we run with it. The second thing is to suppress it. None of these techniques work. But you can look at it and smile at it and it will go away (control). The desires will stop bothering you. I am raising myself above the level of desire. We are not talking about the required desires (fulfilling hunger, job, earning money and more). Verse 6-12 Mad karma Mad-parayan Background: some pandit (Pandurang Shastri) talked about Ram Rajya. Then, people asked, let’s see how Ram Rajya looks like? He thought that this Ram Rajya is not available in India. So, how can I show this to others. How can we create Ram Rajya? So, he started working for one hour with focus on Bhagawan. He started going to fisher’s community and asking them how you are doing? After a while they said we are devoting one hour to Bhagawan. Slowly, fishermen started devoting one hour for Bhagawan and started collecting money. That money was used to create a Boat . Slowly, they created 18 boats and used that money to pay for education. Also, created a place of worship inside the house. In our daily activities, we can devote certain time for Bhagawan (other’s benefit). T his is called mad karma, where you are not the owner of the work, nor you are the owner of the results of work. We are engaged in this manifested world. In Bhakti yoga – the path which takes you away from manifested world to the cause of the manifested world. In spirituality, we usually discount ourselves and we are always focused on external world. When we start focusing on inwards, then we start understanding the one which exists and the one who does not exist. There is a process to reach Me. Who am I? is the focus of this chapter.
