Following the successful completion of the first season of the Hyderabad Bird Atlas in February 2025, we are pleased to announce the commencement of the second season of the survey.
We invite new volunteers to register for Season 2, particularly those who were unable to participate in the first season. Kindly note that individuals who have previously registered for the first season do not need to register again.
What is Hyderabad Bird Atlas?
The Hyderabad Bird Atlas (HBA) provides a detailed map of bird distribution within the boundaries of the Outer Ring Road (ORR). HBA showcases the presence, abundance and breeding status of various bird species across different habitats within the city.
HBA is a valuable tool for scientists, conservationists, and policymakers to understand bird populations, monitor changes over time, identify important bird areas and inform conservation efforts.
This is a Citizen Science Project with a joint collaboration of WWF-India, Hyderabad Birding Pals (HBP) and Deccan Birders.
As part of the HBA, Bird surveys will be conducted twice a year &mdash; once in winter (February 2025) and once post-summer (July 2025) - by birders across Hyderabad city. These surveys have started in 2025 and will continue for next three years. &nbsp;
Whether you're new to birdwatching or an experienced birder, anyone can be a part of this initiative. &nbsp;
