Teaching Hygiene to Preschoolers: A Guide for Parents
Hygiene isn't something children know instinctively - it's a skill, learned the same way they learn to tie their shoes or share a toy. At this age, kids are also learning independence, so the goal is to make hygiene a normal part of the daily routine, not a punishment or something forced on them.
Here are the hygiene habits that matter most in the preschool years, and how to teach them in a way that sticks.
🧼 Important hygiene topics for parents
1. Handwashing Teach children to wash their hands:
<ul>
<li>Before eating or preparing food</li>
<li>After using the toilet</li>
<li>After playing outside</li>
<li>After coughing, sneezing, or blowing their nose</li>
<li>When their hands are visibly dirty</li>
<li>Teach them to use soap and scrub all parts of their hands - palms, backs, between fingers, under nails for about 20 seconds, then rinse and dry.</li>

2. Bathing and body care Young children generally need regular bathing, especially after messy or sweaty activities. Teach them to wash their whole body, paying extra attention to feet, underarms, and other areas that tend to get sweaty. Parents should supervise young children until they can safely and thoroughly manage bathing on their own.
3. Dental hygiene 🪥 Brush teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. Young children need an adult to help or supervise, since they usually can't brush effectively on their own yet. A child's first dental visit should happen by their first birthday, or within six months of their first tooth coming in - whichever comes first.
4. Toilet hygiene Teach children to:

<li>Wipe properly</li>
<li>Flush the toilet</li>
<li>Wash their hands afterward</li>
<li>Tell an adult when they need to use the bathroom&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
 Preschoolers may still need reminders and occasional help - that's normal at this stage.
5. Clean clothes and personal items Change underwear and clothes when they're dirty or sweaty. Teach children not to share personal items such as toothbrushes, towels, or hairbrushes.
6. Coughing and sneezing etiquette Teach children to cough or sneeze into their elbow rather than their hands, and to wash their hands afterward.
7. Hair, nails, and skin Keep fingernails short and clean, wash hair as needed, and gently discourage picking at skin or biting nails.
🌱 Most importantly: teach, don't shame Parents should avoid saying things like "You're dirty" or making hygiene feel embarrassing. Instead, use positive language:
"Let's wash our hands so we can keep our bodies healthy."
"Your teeth need their morning brushing. Would you like to brush first, or should I help you?"
Giving children small choices helps them build independence and makes hygiene routines easier for everyone.

Hygiene is not something they automatically know - it's a skill we teach through repetition, modeling, patience, and consistent routines. Classes

Requirement:
Children should be at least 2 year old. All children will bring their lunch from home.
&nbsp;
School Goal:
Play based learning. All kids should be able to read &amp; write upon completion of one year preschool and one year of pre-K program.
&nbsp;
 Classes &amp; Programs: We provide a clean, safe, and loving environment for the pre-school kids. We prepare kids the basics of preschool and make them ready for elementary school. Please call us for an appointment to visit our preschool. We will provide two healthy snacks.

Preschool: 2.5 to 3.5
 Prekindergarten &nbsp;3.5 to 4.5
 Kindergarten: 4.5 - 6 years (For children with cutoff date)

 We foster the process of self-creation by providing an environment in which the child can develop independently at his or her own pace while still gaining those social, physical, intellectual and emotional skills needed to function at best in society. &nbsp;The children learn through doing, experiencing the joy of individual discovery and mastery on their own terms, at their own speed.

Classes &amp; Programs
 Parents are always welcome to visit the preschool at any time. Suggestions, comments, criticisms, talents, interests, or hobbies, etc., are always welcomed by the preschool staff. Parents are welcome to participate in typical school activities, field trips, class parties, birthdays or any other special activities. A class list is provided for your convenience in school matters. No other use of this list is authorized. There is an observation room for parent use at any time.
 Family Communication Families will receive a newsletter approximately once a month. Please read it carefully! It will contain important information about curriculum activities, upcoming events and important dates. A daily note is placed on the white board to update you on daily activities.
 Parent Teacher Conferences We try to provide most of the information and progress on one-on-one basis but a dedicated parent- teacher conferences can initiated at parent request. The preschool staff and families work together as a team to make the preschool experience beneficial for the child. We are happy to schedule meetings at any time upon family request.
 Parent Resource Area There are plenty of children's story books are available for a two-week checkout period. A variety of topics are available. We will assist families to find information on any topic area desired.

We follow High Scope style curriculum based on weekly themes. The High Scope program is based on the theory that children need active involvement with people, materials and ideas. In this adults and children learn together. Children are encouraged to make their own choices about materials and activities and teachers supports this.

Stepping Stone World provides the loving, caring and learning environment for kids from age 2 years to the entry of first grade. We do lots of hands-on experiences like finger painting, play-dough and other art and craft activity which encourages exploration, stimulates ideas and creativity. In our preschool program we meet the children&rsquo;s individual needs with love, care patience, and understanding.

Our staff works to develop each child individually by recognizing their unique differences. We provide sensitive and responsive care to help make your child feel valued at Stepping Stone World. We make kids very comfortable here by providing a home environment in which they will feel very secure and comfortable. We believe that kids learn better in a comfortable and playful environment. We have a free choice time during which teacher play with kids and try to develop the better understanding of their interest which helps them to plan the theme and curriculum based on the children interest.

Our curriculum is based on academics blended with play and fun. Through play your child will learn social, interaction and language skills. Most part of their social and sharing skill will comes by playing in a group.
